This morning when Jeff got Averi up to get her ready for church, she immediately grabbed his glasses and began roughly swinging them around which is something she loves to do. Jeff took his glasses back and then got very close to Averi's face, looked her in the eye, and very sternly said what he has to say many times each week, "You do not take Daddy's glasses. They are not a toy. That was not nice." He was quite frustrated with her at this point. He laid her down on her changing table to change her diaper. Averi obviously could tell he was upset because she then proceeded to sign "love" and point to Jeff twice. She had never signed "love" "you" before so of course all his frustration melted away immediately. After I finished my shower, Jeff called me in to tell me what she had done and she refused to sign "love" "you" anymore.
Later in the day, I had to put Averi in timeout for biting me (another bad habit she has). At the end of her timeout, I went over to talk to her about what she had done wrong and to assure her that I still loved her. In the process, I am not sure why because I know she doesn't say or sign this word yet, I said, "You need to tell Mommy you are sorry for biting her." To my surprise, Averi immediately began to stroke my shoulder gently with her hand and then gave me a big hug as her own way of communicating her apology. Where does she come up with this stuff?!?
